Pressing the letter V will turn on the Move tool. To activate the move tool when another tool is selected, hold down Ctrl (Windows) or Command (Mac OS). This technique does not work with the pen tool, freeform pen, path selection tool, direct selection tool, hand tool, slice select tool, or anchor point tools.
You can move the selected area or layer by clicking on it and dragging it with your mouse pointer. By using the arrow keys you can move the selection pixel by pixel. This makes for more precision when lining up your selections.
With the Info palette open (click Window then Info), you can track the exact distance of the move. You can also use the move tool to align selections and layers and distribute layers within an image.

The Move Toolbar
The Move Toolbar offers many options to use with this tool. Select the Auto Select Layer box to select the topmost layer that has pixels under the move tool, rather than the selected layer. Select the Show Bounding Box check box to display the bounding box around the selected item. The rest of the buttons in the toolbar are alignment buttons. The buttons are used to align selections and layers within an image. From left to right: Align Top Edges , Align Vertical Centers , Align Bottom Edges , Align Left Edges , Align Horizontal Centers , and Align Right Edges .
The Move Tool is one of the tools that you will use most often in many of your projects. It can also be used to drag layers form one image into another image. Open an image and practice using the move tool. You will find it very handy.
