On 27 Oct 1838 Samuel Evans, Hannah Evans, Samuel Evans, Aaron Evans and Rosanna Jarrett deeded ½ acre of land for fifty cents in cash to Aaron Ballard, James T. Barnard and Samuel C. Evans, trustees of the Baptist church called "Lick Branch" for the purpose of a "Burying Ground." They also deeded one acre south of the cemetery to the same trustees for the purpose of building a house of worship for the Baptist church known as "Lick Branch."
In September of 1829 Lemuel Evans purchased the land where the cemetery is located. Lemuel died in September of 1859. Lemuel and Hannah O'Harrow Evans had a total of 12 children, all deceased by 1884. During the Civil war, Lemuel and Henry Evans died on the battlefield, their mother, Hannah, had their bodies recovered and brought back to Henry county for burial in the Evans cemetery.
There has been considerable damage and vandalism done in this cemetery. Many stones are missing and a lot of graves are unmarked. Two years ago I personally returned several stones to this cemetery that had been carried off by vandals and recovered by the Henry county Sheriff's department.
This last fall the Henry County Cemetery Commission started repair and rebuilding of the stones and cleaning the area of weeds and trash in this cemetery. We should have it looking nice again this year after many years of neglect.
Thomas Hamm and the New Castle Junior History Club recorded this cemetery in 1973. I have researched and added a few names to that list.
