Henry County, IN United Fund, 2009 Day-of-Caring
Hess Cemetery of Prairie Township - September 11, 2009

This year as one of the United Fund's Day of Caring projects, the Hess cemetery in Harrison Township was chosen by the Henry County Cemetery Commission for our annual 'Day of Caring' volunteer clean up effort.
After meeting at the 1st Baptist church Family Life Center early Friday morning for quick breakfast, then picking up our special "Day-of-Caring" t-shirts and supplies, including sandwich and drinks for the day, everyone left for their assigned place of work.
Several members of The Henry County Cemetery Commission, along with about a dozen other volunteers headed out North-west to the Hess cemetery to do major clean up and repair work.
The weather turnd out to be perfect and it was a beautiful day for working in the old cemetery. Many tombstones were cleaned, repaired and reset, bushes and trees were trimmed and all trash and other debris was picked up and put into a pile to be burned later.
By 3:00 p.m. the cemetery was looking great and everyone was ready to call it a day and return to the Baptist Church Center for pizza, drinks and the final wrap up of today's events.
We would like to say THANKS to all the volunteers from Car Quest; Christa Reiserr, Brian Riexsi, Kelly Hamilton, Kathy Cory, Jennifer Harrison, Amanda Stevens, Sonya Stevens, Bob Hess, Bob Riddle, Carolyn Soper, Bud Bush and Donna Tauber. We would also like to offer special thanks to Brad Manzenberger of Stone Revival Cemetery Restoration. http://www.stonerevival.net
Also a special thanks to the Cadiz Volunteer Fire Department, Joe Wiley, Superintendent of the Henry County highway garage, for getting everything set up and ready for the clean-up project and any other volunteer that showed up that I failed to mention.
It was a really great and much appreciated job from everyone. Any pioneer cemetery restoration we can accomplish in the county buys a little more time for our old "Pioneer" cemeteries and the history contained there-in.
THANKS! to each and everyone of you from the HCCC !
