Raysville Christian Church Cemetery

Wayne Township, Henry Co., IN
Est. 1 Feb 1834

This old cemetery was established on 1 Feb 1834 when land was set aside for use as a house of worship and a burial ground for the members of the Christian church. It was deeded to Henry Plumer, Reuben Wilson and James Sears as trustees of the church.
Later in 1839 the Friends church started their church and cemetery just south of the Christian church cemetery. Today all that separates them is a fence. Both cemeteries are located on property just north of the old original State Highway (US #40) on the east edge of Raysville.
There has been quite a lot of vandalism in this cemetery, many stones are down and missing. In the last couple of years the cemeteries have been receiving care from the township trustees and have been fenced and are looking a lot better.
Many of the early pioneers of Raysville are buried and in the Friends cemetery next to it. Knightstown/Raysville area has a total of six cemeteries in the vicinity, more than any other area of Henry County, IN.
Mr. R. Thomas Mayhill recorded these burials in 1968 as well as all burials in Wayne Township and published them in a book "Early Cemetery Records of Wayne Township, Henry County, Indiana." It is available for purchase at the Henry County Historical Society Museum in New Castle, IN.
